The forthcoming Land Conference (LDK) of the Young Socialists Hamburg "Improving Care for the Homeless in Hamburg," we will introduce a motion on the subject.
Nearly 4,000 people are officially homeless in Hamburg. The real figure is likely much higher. On the road, which has about 1,000 people, the other covered persons are usually accommodated in support facilities. This number has decreased compared to 2002 by 22% and the number of long-term homeless, however, has increased. 2002 were still 29.2% of the homeless for more than 5 years down the road - 2009 there were already 35.3%. Basically, the drop in homeless numbers welcome, because it shows that homelessness is not an unsolvable problem. That is why it is unacceptable that in one of the richest cities in Europe, several thousand people homeless and sleeping under bridges and in doorways need. Effective help for homeless people far exceeds the supply of basic needs like food and shelter. The assistance to be overcoming the hardship must be the primary goal of a support system to help short-term homeless people quickly and efficiently to new housing and a parent living environment.
Therefore, we urge the Senate of Hamburg on
